This WebQuest activity was designed for secondary one and two students in core English. It could be used as an introductory activity to have students learn about identification vocabulary as it is an area of functional language (MELS). Moreover, the activity is a short-term activity, therefore it can be integrated quickly and easily over a week or two as a follow up to students learnings.

You may want to use this WebQuest as an ice breaker activity at the beginnig of the year, because the characters are supposed to resemble the students and their personalities. It could be a way to get students to know each other a little better. If you wish, you could also have students draw a little cartoon as a side activity. If students are too shy or not yet at ease to speak in front of their teammates, placing them in teams of 2 or 4 to talk about their characters could be great (You may use cooperative structures such a Jigsaw, Three-Step Interviews and so on).

It is also possible to grade students' writing skills as they have to write a short biography about their characters.

*I used Wiki sites because they are not complicated to use and to read through. It is important to remember that the focus of this activity is to discover new vocabulary words about personality and physical characteristics rather than really get to know the characters of the movies.

You can take a look at all the websites used by clicking on the links in the Process section and subsections. Activity sheets are also provided to facilitate the teacher's task.

My name and e-mail address are in the credit section if you have any questions, or comments. You may also request my permission in order to use this WebQuest in your classroom.
